Bathroom Maintenance
Regular cleaning of bathroom fixtures prevents soap scum build up and discoloration. Never use abrasive cleaners, and use caution to prevent surface scratches.
Glass bottles or metal accessories should not be placed in the tub or near the bay area. A dropped glass object is both a safety hazard and potentially damaging to the surfaces of the unit.
The only remedy for a tub surface scratch is a touch-up kit available from the manufacturer. Wax based commercial products can restore the surface to its original high luster, but may not be a remedy for covering mars, scratches or chips.
Grouting around the edges of bathtubs and sinks may crack or come out. If this occurs, spilled or splashed water can cause serious damage to a finished ceiling below a bathroom. Normally, a periodic inspection and regrouting of these areas will prevent costly repairs. Seal the grout with a silicone grout sealer shortly after you move into your home, and then periodically as necessary.
For safety reasons, it's recommended that all fasteners on mirrors, medicine cabinets, shower doors, tub enclosures and skylights be tightened, and mountings secured. Normal use of enclosures may require door and track adjustments at some future time and should be checked periodically for alignment to ensure long-lasting and effective service.
